Hats: supsupsupsup?

When we discussed motifs and symbols in the play, alot of people brought up pistols and other things but the one motif that stood out to me was the hats. I think hats played a very important part in the play bcuz it showed the true personalities of certain characters in the play. Hats are usually associated with being a means of protection from the sun by acting as shade. Also, hats are used as accessories for an elegant outfit for a formal event....Aunt Julie used her hat to show that she was of the same social status as Hedda. She wanted Hedda to believe that she was on the same level as her bcuz Hedda tended to look down on other females around her. Unfortunately, Aunt Julie's pln didnt work bcuz not only did Hedda fail to see it as a "rich person's" hat, but she ended up mistaking it for the maid's ...which is even worse!!!!!! What other motifs did u guys notice?
